First Look: 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

sedan continues to steam along as MERCEDES BENZ's flagship, the company's most treasured badge is the SL. It was the first postwar Benz to capture the world's attention, initially as the 300 Sport-Leicht racer that won such endurance classics as the Carrera Panamericana and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1952, and then as the "sports-car-driver's Silver Arrow," the 300SL gullwing coupe that catapulted the Mercedes-Benz star into the American Dream.Mercedes's Intelligent Light System distributes forward illumination in reaction to driving and weather conditions, offering five different layouts of light, including active cornering
The entirely new nose sports smoother bumpers and bi-Xenon, active headlamps. Power domes jut from the steeply sloping hood over the wider and taller grille. The single-bar design and large star emblem evokes previous SL practice.
It's a big step beyond the understated, almost Q-ship approach of the recent past, but, important when dealing with a company treasure, the 2009 avoids any radical break from the SL's evolutionary path
